After a week’s delay due to inclement weather, the highly anticipated 3rd Annual IMBOKODO Cup 2024 finally took place. Teams from CATCH Trust, Langa, and Samora gathered to battle it out for the prestigious cup. The tournament kicked off with all players warming up together, setting the tone for a day of competitive and spirited cricket.
Game 1: CATCH Trust vs Samora U19 Girls
In the first match, CATCH Trust U19 Girls took on Samora U19 Girls. CATCH put up an impressive total of 99-0 in their 10 overs. Skipper Lisakhanya Blom led from the front with a brilliant 49* off 28 balls, while Somila Stofile provided a steady contribution of 13 off 19 balls. Their partnership set the stage for CATCH’s victory, winning the game by 25 runs.
Game 2: CATCH Trust vs Langa U19 Girls
CATCH Trust faced Langa U19 Girls in their second match, batting first and putting up a total of 111-3 in 10 overs. Lisakhanya Blom continued her excellent form, scoring 52 off 26 balls before retiring, supported by Phiwokuhle Mbula with 16 off 15 balls. Langa fought hard in their chase, but CATCH’s bowlers stood strong, with Liyabona Mjikeliso and Ongezwa Nyakatya taking two wickets each. Contributions from Emilhe Silamsi, Lulutho Magazi, Asekhona Tingatinga, and Avene Peter (each with one wicket) secured CATCH’s victory and their place in the final.
Game 3: Langa U19 Girls Advance to the Final
Samora forfeited Game 3, allowing Langa to move through to the final.
The Final: CATCH Trust vs Langa U19 Girls
With the title on the line, Langa batted first in the final and posted 85-3, with Akhona Mahlanza top-scoring with 35 off 17 balls. CATCH faced early pressure after losing their skipper, Lisakhanya Blom, but a steady partnership between Ongezwa and Asekhona gave them hope. However, Langa’s bowling attack proved too strong, and CATCH fell short, making Langa U19 Girls the champions of the IMBOKODO Cup 2024.
