Building the Next Generation of Coaches: The Second Cohort of the CATCH Coaches Academy

On 13 August 2025, the journey of the second cohort of the CATCH Coaches Academy officially began—marking another exciting chapter in the development of future cricket leaders.

With numbers on the rise, this year’s cohort was split into two dynamic groups. The first group overlapped with the SportSmart Futures Programme, creating a unique environment where learning, mentoring, and youth development intersected. The second group was made up of aspiring coaches from surrounding townships, young men and women eager to step into leadership roles and inspire the next generation of players in their communities.

From the outset, participants have embraced the programme with enthusiasm and dedication. Over the past weeks, they’ve dived into key foundation-building topics such as:

  • The Role of a Coach – exploring not just the technical aspects of coaching, but also the responsibility of being a mentor, motivator, and role model.
  • Bowling Fundamentals – breaking down the core techniques of bowling, while learning how to teach and refine these skills in others.
  • Batting Fundamentals – focusing on the mechanics of batting, with an emphasis on passing on knowledge in a structured and impactful way.

What has stood out most is the level of commitment and immersion shown by the participants. Far more than just a cricket course, the CATCH Coaches Academy is about developing leaders, building character, and empowering young people to drive change in their communities through sport.

As this cohort progresses, the Academy will continue to challenge, equip, and support these young coaches, ensuring they leave not only with technical expertise, but with the confidence and leadership skills to make a lasting impact both on and off the pitch.

This is just the beginning of their journey, and already, the passion and energy within the group signal a bright future ahead—for them, for CATCH, and for the communities they serve.
