The Grassroot Soccer Programme launched into 2026 with great excitement this past February, setting a powerful tone for the year ahead. Returning participants transitioned from the Skillz Core curriculum into Mind Skillz, bringing with them enthusiasm, confidence, and a strong sense of continuity from the previous year.
Picking up where they left off, participants began the year with the important topic of Setting Goals, a fitting and impactful way to start their journey. The session was marked by high levels of engagement, with participants fully immersed in the activities and facilitators equally energized by the experience.
A standout moment of the session came when participants paired up to share their personal interests and collaborate towards achieving a common goal. This activity not only strengthened teamwork but also encouraged open communication and mutual understanding among peers.
As part of the programme’s continued growth, a new group of participants has joined the Grassroot Soccer family. These individuals have begun their journey with the Skillz Core curriculum, starting with the foundational session Joining the Skillz Team. This session created a safe and engaging space for participants to express what they hope to learn and gain from the programme, fostering a sense of ownership from the outset.

The highlight for this new group was the signing of the Skillz Core Contract, a symbolic and meaningful moment representing commitment, accountability, and the beginning of an exciting journey ahead. The session was filled with fresh perspectives, vibrant discussions, and a shared sense of purpose.
Reflecting on the sessions, facilitator and coach, Yongeza Mngxitama shared his thoughts:
“Grassroot Soccer has had a positive impact on both myself and the participants. Content is being well-received with freedom of expression. Through the content, participants are learning to become better human beings from a young age.”
With both returning and new participants showing such enthusiasm, the Grassroot Soccer Programme is well-positioned for a year of growth, learning, and impactful change.
