The CATCH Trust Coaches Academy is back in action, with off-season training sessions well underway. The beginning of another exciting chapter for aspiring coaches as they continue their journey of growth, learning and self-discovery.
The first session set the tone for what promises to be a transformative programme, focusing on “The Role of a Coach.” Rather than simply defining the role, participants were challenged to think deeply about their personal motivations. Why do you want to become a coach? and What is your purpose within the game? Theses thought-provoking questions sparked meaningful conversations, encouraging coaches to reflect beyond the technical aspects and consider the impact they can have on players and communities.
The session was highly interactive, with mentor coaches sharing their own experiences and insights, offering valuable “nuggets” of wisdom that added depth and perspective to the discussions. These engagements created a space where learning was not only instructional but also personal and reflective.
Taking learning beyond the classroom, participants from the Academy, were given the opportunity to observe and be part of a live high-performance environment. They joined the CATCH Trust U23 training session, where they gained hands-on experience under the guidance of expert coaches, from the likes of Jimmy Cook, Derek Mitchell, Keanan Mitchell and Pieter Malan from the Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy. This practical exposure is a key component of the programme, bridging the gap between theory and real-world coaching.

This journey is not one that coaches walk alone. It is a collaborative pathway shared amongst CATCH Trust and GKC coaches and the Academy mentors, all working together to support the development of the next generation of cricket leaders. Through this process, participants are encouraged to learn, grow and discover who they can become within the coaching space.
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Bat For A Chance for their continued support. Their contribution goes beyond providing cricket equipment, actively investing in the future of the game.
As the programme progresses, we look forward to seeing how each coach continues to evolve, embracing the journey and shaping their identity within the sport.
