This past Saturday, we had the honour of hosting the Royal Navy Cricket Association at the Centre of Cricket Excellence for an exciting T20 clash filled with competitive spirit and valuable lessons.
After winning the toss, our ladies captain elected to bat first. The innings began on a challenging note, with the early loss of our opening batter in the first over. Despite the setback, the team showed resilience and composure at the crease.
Ongezwa Nyakatya anchored the innings with a crucial 30 off 23 balls, providing much-needed stability. She was well supported by Nako Mbombiya, who added 18 (19), while Coach Babalwa Zothe contributed a determined 13 (24). Their efforts helped the team reach 112-9 in 19.3 overs, a fighting total built on perseverance and teamwork.
In response, the Royal Navy side came out with strong intent. Victoria Cannon (34* off 35) and Pippa Chadwick (35* off 22) led the charge, both retiring not out after composed and confident innings. Their partnership ensured a steady chase, with the visitors securing victory by 10 wickets.

While the result did not go our way, matches like these provide invaluable exposure and growth opportunities for our players. Competing against an international side reinforces our commitment to development, discipline, and raising the standard of women’s cricket within our programme.
We thank the Royal Navy Cricket Association for their sportsmanship and the opportunity to share the field in what was a memorable fixture.
