On 29 July 2025, the second cohort of the SportSmart Futures Programme officially began, bringing together a group of motivated young participants ready to grow, learn, and lead.
The programme opened with the My Personal Brand module, which encouraged participants to reflect on how they present themselves to the world, build confidence, and embrace the journey of becoming the best versions of themselves. This important first step sets the tone for their development, both on and off the pitch.
In parallel, the cohort also began their Safeguarding training. This component is a vital part of the programme, ensuring that participants are equipped with the knowledge and practical skills to protect and support the young athletes they will eventually be coaching. By embedding safeguarding practices from the outset, SportSmart Futures reinforces the values of responsibility, leadership, and care.
As the weeks unfold, participants will continue to engage in workshops, coaching sessions, and personal development activities designed to strengthen their skills, character, and opportunities within sport and beyond.
The SportSmart Futures Programme is proudly delivered by The CATCH Trust in partnership with Lucha Lunako and forms a key part of the Sport for Education and Sustainable Livelihoods in Africa (SESLA) initiative. SESLA is a collaborative effort by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation—all committed to advancing youth education and employability through sport across Africa.
The SportSmart Futures Programme is more than just training—it is an investment in the next generation of leaders, who will inspire change and growth in their communities.
