What an incredible week it was for the CATCH Trust U23 side.
Last week, our U23 team received an invitation to participate in the prestigious Fairtree Cup, hosted by the Gary Kirsten Cricket Academy. The tournament brought together talented teams for a week of competitive cricket, development, and memorable moments.
The CATCH Trust side was made up of players from various townships across Cape Town. Although many of the players had played cricket within their own clubs and communities, this was the first time the squad had trained and competed together as a single unit. For the coaching staff and management, it was also the first opportunity to see the team perform collectively in a competitive environment.
From the very first match, the week was filled with excitement. Runs were scored across the batting line-up, wickets were taken at crucial moments, and catches were held with confidence in the field. The team showed determination, resilience, and an eagerness to compete against strong opposition throughout the tournament.
Beyond the performances on the field, the week also highlighted the power of unity and teamwork. Despite being a newly formed squad, the players quickly built strong connections and supported one another throughout the competition.
Reflecting on the experience, Head Coach Xolani Lallo shared his thoughts on the week:
“The energy throughout the week was nothing short of exceptional. Despite the squad meeting as a collective for the first time, the vibe was brilliant, characterised by strong energies and genuine mutual support.”
For CATCH Trust, the tournament was more than just about results, it was about opportunity, exposure, and growth for young cricketers from communities across the city. Experiences like these continue to play an important role in the development of our players both on and off the field.
